Why these prices moved in 2026
Memory, storage and graphics cards have risen sharply this year. AI data centre demand has absorbed most of the world's DRAM and NAND production, so a 32GB DDR5 kit that cost around £80 last year now costs closer to £400, and 2TB NVMe drives have roughly tripled.
Mat has put the price up rather than quietly cut the specification, which is what most pre-built machines have done instead. Where it made sense, memory and storage capacity dropped one step and that money went into the graphics card, because the GPU is what you actually feel when you play.
